    • Ghost town Pomona, Sperrgebiet
  • Bogenfels is one of the most spectacular sights in the rugged area south of Lüderitz. The famous rock arch, approximately 60 metres high, juts into the Atlantic Ocean.

Our tour took us through breathtaking desert landscapes with an incredible variety of desert plants into the “Sperrgebiet” (forbidden diamond area), where mining activities are still taking place. At the ghost towns of Grillenthal and Pomona, some of the mining equipment dating to 1910 to 1930 is reasonably well preserved, and tell a story of harsh living and the difficult working conditions of the Germans who discovered the first diamond.
